Live interview of my miniature origami on 'Good Day Sacramento'

This morning I was just interviewed live through skype on the California morning show ‘Good Day Sacramento’ (on CBS local – CBS 13/CW 31) which is now online for viewing – (this was actually my first time to use the video feature on skype :P).

See the video here
(Thank you D R Moore for the link!)

P.S. I had no clue when they were going to show my face and when they were going to show my pics (all the pictures that were being presented was under their control; and I had no clue whatsoever what they were going to be showing) so some of the dialogue doesn’t really match with what is going on – was cut off just as I was bringing my tweezers to the webcam (the part where I say “like these” was meant for my tweezers – not the cranes that were in the up-coming image).

Great interview Mui-Ling! I am confused though. Did he say your name correctly?

  • Thanks Don! No it wasn’t correct ^^"… Prior to the interview I did tell him how to say my name over skype, but I guess it wasn’t clear enough. I don’t blame him though; even in real life I often have to repeat myself several times when I’m telling others how to say my name.

Awesome MEE-LING hahaha… Journalists huh? never get anything right.

That is just fantastic. Such a positive bit of PR for you, especially after all the grief you had with that other organisation.

Shame you didn’t get to plug your RedBubble site… but hey – YOU WERE ON TV!

    So happy for you!

  • lol, hahahahaha! When I was in grade one everyone called me Mee-ling! It’s funny that happens at all when they already know how to spell my name; how hard is it to pronounce the ‘u’ sound?

And yes I am a lot happier with this feature than those from last year. I was actually wondering at first whether to go for this or not; last year following those disastrous publications I turned down all other publication requests after that. But since this was one on one, I thought, I can’t really be misrepresented here, and I’m glad that I could talk about the photography aspect of my work as well.

As for plugging in my Redbubble site, while they didn’t mention it in this video, they already posted it here yesterday as an update of upcoming features.

Woo Hoo Congrats! This was certainly well deserved for all your hard work.

P.S. I sent the code to you for the direct link via bmail

  • Thanks so much! I’ve updated this journal. I believe tomorrow, or at least in a few days, there will also be a link archived on the Good Day Sacremento site as well.

Fantastic exposure! Congrats and well deserved!

  • Thank you Steven. I have to admit I have been nervous about this all week (I was contacted by them on Monday. They were initially saying they wanted me to show some of my tools and the original pieces; and I never gave any thought about what to show until last night! Also, since it was my first time using the video feature for skype, I was kinda worried about technical problems. Luckily there was no technical problems, although while I was watching myself through skype, the video was jumpy, so I didn’t really know what kind of face I was actually making! In the end I guess there wasn’t really time to show my original pieces – probably for the better though; can’t really see them through webcam. I did try to show my tweezers once, although they’re nothing special and that moment was cut off by pictures.

Fabulous…it might just go viral too….

  • I wonder… there was some celebrity gossip happening not too long before my part was aired :P – yes I was watching part of the show through skype before I came on. I was so nervous! I waited on skype for my call at the scheduled time; was getting edgy when I heard no ring for a while. Finally, after getting the call and picking up I hear all these noises in the background. I couldn’t see the other side but they could see me; they were doing audio and video tests – felt kinda weird; like I was being blind folded with people around looking at me… Meanwhile, while I talked to let them test the audio, they were just texting me at the time… I guess they couldn’t speak because things were being aired at the time (and supposedly for this reason also they didn’t pronounce my name correctly…) – my heart was pounding at this moment! Later I could see the video of the features happening before mine; although it was jumpy through skype.
