I'm sad :-(
I wanted to make a slight change in the description of my Arctic Playground, but before clicking the “Save Changes” button I didn’t realize the “Hide this work from the Public” button got checked. This particular work had won this challenge long ago but that record is now lost ;__; ... it was also in a challenge where the voting had already commenced and I had a few votes on it already; now it’s out of the challenge…
I was evaluating on how I could have done something so careless as I was editing my work again (unchecking the “hide from public” box and resubmitting to all the groups) I realized that simply clicking on the text also checkmarks the box; the cursor does not need to be over the box. So I must have accidentally clicked on the text without realizing it… could have been the result of the touchpad on my laptop which is sometimes too sensitive.
Well it could’ve been worse; I could have done this to an even more popular image of mine; and I’ve learned a lesson: I have to avoid having my mouse over the text and be SUPER careful; though sometimes the RB site has done funny things itself and saved changes on my work before I was ready to post…
It’s not the end of the world really; it’s really the comments and the favs that mean the most to me; and that does not get lost. Luckily I also still have a record of my challenge win in the comments. I was pleased with the new upload system initially because it was faster, but I wonder if in the previous version, an incident like this could’ve happened too? I wonder if this incident is something more to blame on a human mistake or the system?
Update:
I’ve bmailed the host to let her know what happened. Although she was unable to get the image back into the challenge, she did change the image for the challenge avatar to my entry and added a special note saying my image won but was accidentally deleted. I’m rather grateful that she was willing to make that change and I think it makes up for the loss. Thank you so much Pene!

Hi Mui_Ling , if you have hidden it from public view it will still be there , just go to edit and untick the box . x
Mui-Ling Teh replied
I already did untick the box. I still have my comments and faves, but records involving group activities (challenge wins, features) is lost. In the “challenge” link I put above, my image used to be in that winning place but now there isn’t even a record of my participation in that challenge.
It’s not very serious though; what’s important to me is that people like my work~ and I still have my prizes :o) – well, minus the feature.

I have over 1,500 hidden from public view which I can retrieve at any time .

I’m sorry that happened to you, my friend. I’ve lost whole papers for work in years past, and had to do them over again. (We didn’t even have them when I went to uni.) Oh, I get soooooo frustrated!!
I don’t know if it’s between the ears, between the http and .com, or if it’s the touchpad.
I have an HP laptop, and have had one model or anothere for years, because I can draw so easily with the touch pad. But in the past it used to get more and more sensitive, till just the electric field I put off (you know, that stops wrist watches) would make a mark. I had to reset the sensitivity of the pad. After about 4 months on this new one, I think it’s “learning” my field again. So now I have to find the settings in Vista. Seems like they hide them in a new place every time they put out a new Windows version. They rename and hide EVERYTHING in new versions. I’ve had to turn off my touch pad before when doing lots of stuff that went over it and over it. Now only part of my thumbs go over it the way I’m sitting now. Not too sensitive.
Anyway, great sympathy, my friend
As you say, you have the comments, but not the award banners. I’d ask a Group Host for a new banner under it, including a couple of the comments congratulating you on it, or if it’s a Challenge, telling which Challenge it was.
Well, here’s a hug in sympathy- we know how it feels!

Actually I do still have comments of congratulations from the host at least :) Just for anyone visiting the challenge page in the group itself; they don’t see my win there.
I can understand the frustration of losing papers for works, or anything worked on for the matter. In school some students do their works by hand while most seem accustomed to working digitally. Back in Rome many of my classmates’ hard drives burnt out, and whatever work they had done digitally got lost and they had to start their projects from scratch; and by hand which not all were used to. I felt sorrier for people who lost their photos of Italy due to dying computers; to those who lost their special memories. It’s also common for students to do work dealing with intense rendering and using up a lot of RAM; hence lots of computer crashes and programs closing down before the student had the chance to save their work.
Thank you for your sympathies dear friend, but I am thankful meanwhile that I haven’t lost everything

Ask the Hosts of the groups and challenges to see if they can reinstall your images?....Might be possible….......Good luck…x
Mui-Ling Teh replied
Thanks; I’ll try that.

Hi again. I’ve bmailed the host. She wasn’t able to get the image back into the challenge; but instead she changed the image for the challenge avatar to my entry and edited the challenge description to specify that my image won but was accidentally deleted. For me that more that makes it up already.

Yes it gets dropped from the groups as soon as it’s hidden and you have to re-enter the groups…that can happen in bulk editing as well….. I keep hand written records of all my features and wins, and luckily I do because when I was bulk editing some works a whole bunch of them got hidden by accident..I was able to add any info that was missing re group wins that I had not recorded on the art page itself…I now make an effort to write them on the art pages as soon as they occur, but I am behind hand…
The hosts of the group can do something about reinstating the features you have, but I don’t think you can be added to the challenge once the voting starts…so sorry….

I always update the description of my work after it gets featured and give my work a unique tag afterwards; that way I can keep track. Although that would probably be more work for you since it looks like you get them more often :o)
No, my entry can’t be re-added to the challenge, but I did bmail the host however and she did have an alternative solution which makes up for it (see my update above). Thanks Janis.
