Eye and Flower Dyptych
Completed in 2004, age 17
This is a slightly cropped version of the original, due to the limits of my camera. My original signature got cropped out so I had to insert a new one in photoshop; in the original it is not actually located there.
Original size: (40” x 30”)
The two subjects are posed in similar positions, each having a dark, circular central focus., Both images have lines above and surrounding the centres, which draw attention towards the centres. The vertical composition help strenghten the feeling of height given by the vertical lines. Both subjects are organic, however one, the eye, has straight lines and geometrical shapes, while the rose has curvy lines and organic shapes. In the eye, the centre is literally dark, while in the flower the darkness is created by shadows.

Thank you my friend. I did this when I was in grade 12; the project was assigned by a student teacher who got us to do a large monochromatic dyptich in acylic. We first did 5 thumbnail sketches – among mine I also had “Parallel Moments in Permanence”. My student teacher liked all mine but I think he was in particularly expecting me to paint “Parallel Moments in Permanence” though I chose to the eye and flower. Everyone in my class had a different opinion about which was better: the eye or the flower.
The “Parallel Moments in Permanence” which I have in redbubble I just did last February; haven’t had much time to do during university since I’m always so busy, but right now I’m on co-op and trying to get back to old hobbies ;)

Why should one place the eue next to the watery flower?
I know that in Art teaching some techniques are basical.. uses 0f material, concepts, prespectives, dimensions, colour…and drawing…but when I find that all of these converge in a piece of symbolism and that the artist´s mind goes beyonder the real thing….I fill with
wonder….Artists seem to be a lot for humankind. You go to theinsight of our expectations..and adventure into the realms of the Soul. I can see it in this eye and rose..fullnof uncertainty…both being dissolved or either created by light… both being nothing but light.. for the rose won´t grow if not for light… and the eye won´t see if not for life. Fearful…there is some kind of fear i the dyptic…or loolong for an escape. And on thewhole an strong sensation of growing young unrestlessness.Loely

I didn’t not mean to exclude my attention from the Flower and should have made a comment separate for the Flower, which I will another time not just to comment for the sake of commenting,
I am Fascinated with Eyes, I have a sense of Sight that is a mystery to me and I ask always why must I be able to see so clear, so far, and so intricately and up close, I’m sorry that I did not mention the Flower.
