Towards a new age...

Taken on February 28, 2009 with an Olympus FE-340.

I know, there are probably many images of the Gherkin here already. But for myself who is not British, it was really exciting to get close to it. London is rich in history, but meanwhile you can also see a lot of modern architecture being developed and taking over; and we’re also moving towards building up, so our tall skyscrapers over shadow history in place and time.

Here the Gherkin already looks much taller than the old buidlings in front. But for a better idea of scale (sound familiar? :P)...

As you can see, one glass diamond is already about the height of a person.

I had never seen it before…what a very strange idea on the part of the architect!!...I don’t know what to make of it…your photo is stunning…

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

It’s become a landmark in London, even when you are quite a distance from it you can see it. A few steps out the door from where I lived I was able to see it.

Wow! I am not British either, and I appreciate the reminder that the cities of even the older countries still have modern architecture. Thank you for that reminder, and thanks for illustrating the scale of the building too. Great photo!!!

Hi, i saw this 4 years ago as I did a trip down the Themes and of course I had to know what it was. It’s an insurance building. I couldn’t believe all of this just for insurance.

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Of course; very recognizable building this is…
