Hadrian's Villa
Hadrian’s Villa (Villa Adriana in Italian) is a large Roman archaeological complex at Tivoli, Italy.
(Source: Wikipedia)
Emperor Hadrian was the third of the “Five Good Emperors”. Though when life in the palace was too much for him, he needed a place to retreat. He therefore had a villa built in Tivoli as his retreat from Rome; though eventually he began governing the Roman empire from the villa.

On this day we first visited Villa d’Este:
It was a very rainy day and was rather glum by the time we got to the Villa. This photo is an edited version of this:

When we arrived we first took shelter and our prof gave us a lecture:

Then a cat that somehow got in ran through my legs:

And eventually many people (including myself :P) were looking at the cat instead of listening to the lecture lol.

This is really breathtaking, Mui-Ling. I love being able to see the world through others’ eyes. Thank you for sharing your experiences. xo

Thank you Lori. I’m now trying to get into the habit of sharing the experience in my descriptions than just posting the pictures. I have so many and there are other things that I’ve been keeping myself busy with that it is difficult at times to really get into that; but after everything is up I’ll probably be revising the descriptions for much of the works in my portfolio. xo

I know how you feel. There are only so many hours in the day and we have things to do. xoxo

Wow….
I would love – LOVE – to explore this place. It looks absolutely gorgeous – a slowly crumbling time-capsule of history… When I go to places like this it’s almost like history lingers on in the wind like whispers; you don’t only see the remains of the past, you can feel it – if that makes any sense at all.
Wonderful.

I totally understand what you mean; that’s the special thing about the Rome term. We don’t really get that feeling much in Canada, and some don’t realize how great it is to be in Italy until you go; it certainly is different from just seeing it from a photo.
There was STRONG smell of sulphur in this place. There are some sulphur springs in Tivoli…
