Little White Peacock in a Field of Color

Little White Peacock in a Field of Color

I hope people aren’t tired of my origami; but I needed to do this before the flower dies; my mom brought some flowers back from a wedding two weekends ago, and when I saw this particular flower, I really wanted to create this image because the centre of this flower looked like a field.

The folded peacock is comprised of two piece of paper: one for the body, the other for the tail. The body is made from a 6×6mm paper, and the tail I faned out of a circle about 1cm in diameter which I cut a slit through.

The peacock walks through a field of colour and gets pollen on itself; and that is how the peacock got its color!

How could I miss this…. this is great work, Mui-Ling! It almost feels like the ugly duckling story… the peacock is small and young, and the beauty of the flower completely overwhelms him….. when the time comes, he will be brilliant! :-D

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

You are right Paul, the flower does overwhelm him, but here it is a blessing because the flower gives the peacock his colors to attract the female peacocks, and then the flower perfume is an added bonus ;). Thanks for the insightful comment.

    cool idea!!
:D i just think the positionng of the origami should be more profiled
cus its hard to say what it is

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Well the flower is already dead, so can’t redo this. But I was thinking of doing another shot with my hand in it; I’ll make it a profile then.

  • Kenny Gulley Jr.

    Kenny Gulley Jr.

omg but the idea/story is perfect!

  • Kenny Gulley Jr.

    Kenny Gulley Jr.

no worries, still pretty neat’o :i was just thinking that a pofile is hard to do, cuz its a peacock, and u have to have the tail feathers behind the head, its just when thats done …its hard to see his head…eventhough that that is the right way to do it! darn catch 22. I like it though!

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

True, in a profile you can’t see the tail feathers fanned out. I’ve had to shoot this several times because the head was hard to make out. Can never have it all in just one angle…Glad you like it though, thanks for the comment.

Your origami is delightful and so clever. I was given some little cranes by two Japanese guests who stayed with me and was intrigued by them, but they weren’t as pretty as yours.

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Yes I remember. You told me this story in “Born from the Hand”. They stayed with you for B&B right? Thanks for the comment :)

  • jacqi

    jacqi

oops! sorry for repeating myself – senior moment!

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Oh don’t worry about it; I like that story! It reminded me of the time I home stayed in Japan last summer while doing an internship there. The landlady made me breakfast everyday and her cooking is SOOOO good! She was pretty obsessed with me too, as though I was her daughter, which was nice but sometimes drove me crazy, because she’d introduce me to late night guests when I just wanted to go to sleep :P. But she was nice lady, and I do miss her. She sent me a letter and some little presents last February because of a Japanese holiday coming up the time. I’m going to do the same for her for her birthday in July.

I could never tire of perfection.. your work is thrilling that we humans could create something so tender and small.. we always build big out.. this makes me think of the perfection within.

  • Mui-Ling Teh replied

Thank you so much linaji; I’m glad you like this :). I feel the same way, we build big out. It’s kinda ironic; I study architecture which is like art on a large scale, but I enjoy making tiny things.
