Thousands of people gathered in the middle of nowhere steppe to celebrate spring. Long rows of tables showcasing traditional Uzbek food welcomed me before I attended the ‘ooh-lock oye-in,’ a game like soccer/football that is competitively played on horseback (instead of running) with a headless goat’s body (in lieu of a ball). Fascinating, dangerous and well, gross. I chose not to sample any of these delicacies on this particular day.
Taken outside of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
