I found these as I wandered around the property of the dacha we were visiting for the day. They sat along a fence next to a pile of wood surely used to keep the fires going in the winter. I imagine that someone either took this birch bark off the logs they were stacking, or that it naturally comes off in neat rolls and were stashed here. I enjoy that they’re put there, in a haphazard way, more than likely. I also appreciate the depth of field in this shot with the hints of pink peonies in the background adding some fizz to the birch. Where I hail from, birch beer is made from these delightful trees. For those of you unfamiliar with what this is, check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_beer.

Taken in Kartashevskaya, Russia.

I desire to glorify God through all avenues of life and bless others in the process. Taking images of what He’s created with His hands, then sharing them – unrefined, is part of my expression.

I have got a box made of birch peels. Lovely.

  • They caught my eye as I was wandering around the dacha. Simple…
