To me, this photograph is a bit eerie and austere. But then I see the bit of life on the bottom right hand corner and I am vested in hope. I wonder what it was like for this bird to find such a landing place. He has a sense of purpose in his position. His eyes seem to be fixed on something external to this scene. What’s over there? Is it a more interesting, fruitful place to land? Who’s over there? Could it be Noah and those in the ark with him?

“After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth.” – Genesis 8:6-7.

As strange as it may be, this is what struck me about this image. Now it is more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Taken on the shore of the Puget Sound, outside of Shelton, Washington, the United States of America.
