Most cities have an area that’s regarded as the “posh” part of town, where those who have gathered wealth, prestige or both, make their homes. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the “south end” has always been that place, though other areas are gaining the same aura. Young Avenue is one street that has many of the largest and most stately homes, built over many years and carefully maintained. The city was incorporated in 1749, so it’s had time to accumulate many outstanding businessmen, educators and entrepreneurs. Samuel Cunard, the founder of the Cunard Line, was one such person but there have been many others.
