Cameron Lake, Waterton Park by

Waterton Lakes National Park, in the south-west corner of Alberta, Canada. The smallest of the Rocky Mountain park chain in Alberta, but also the easiest to get around in, and quite possibly the most beautiful. From the town-site in the park, the Akamina Parkway runs for 16 km. through a variety of beautiful scenery and ends at Cameron Lake. The first time we went there it was overcast, dull and rainy, so a second trip was in order, and this time we had blue skies, sunshine and the ice in the lake was breaking up slowly. Still a bit chilly as it was only the second week of June, 2010.

Camera, Sony DSCF828 , 1/250 sec. F 5.6, ISO 100

Awesome capture Jann!! I sure remember this sight!! Imagine the lake being frozen still at the middle of June!! Gorgeous all the same!!

  • Hi Blair, good to see you again! Yes, it was still qyuite chilly if you were in the shade! The ice was getting very soft and there were small sections of open water starting to show along the shore.Another week of sun and it probably would have really started to show up. Thanks for your kind comment,BTW:)

This is so very pretty Jann. Here we were basking in the new summers heat and there’s the ice still unbroken. A lovely capture. A fave for sure. :>)) Leslie

  • Oh thanks so much Leslie, you’re a sweetpea! It was nice down at the campground, but up there was really chilly, especially in the shade. Better than the first time, though, that was rainy and misty, not very nice at all!

A wonderful scene, Jann, and a beautiful capture of it! What a lovely area.

  • That 16 km. road is so full of beautiful scenes you think it can’t get much better and then you stop at the lake and realize, yes,it can..lol! I’d like to see it in summer without the ice. I think the reflection of that mountain would be fantastic.
