I couldn’t do better than to offer this quote:

“From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prince of Wales Hotel is located in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada, overlooking Upper Waterton Lake, near the Canada-United States border. Constructed between 1926–1927, the hotel was built by the American Great Northern Railway to lure American tourists during the prohibition-era north of the border. The hotel was named after the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), in a transparent attempt to entice him to stay in the hotel on his 1927 Canadian tour, but the Prince stayed at a nearby ranch instead .

The Prince of Wales Hotel enjoys the distinction of being the sole establishment among Canada’s grand railway hotels to have been built by an American, as opposed to a Canadian, railway company. The hotel was designated a National Historic Site of Canada by the Canadian government in 1995."

I have to add, the site engineers really knew a great view when they saw one!

What a beautiful scene, Jann! Such a lovely old hotel and a wonderful capture. “Majestic” springs to mind!

  • Hey Mike!! That’s a nice pic..with your feet up and relaxing :) Glad you liked the Hotel image..that place was on George’s bucket list for most of his life, and he finally made it. And took me along too..lol! I’d seen pictures of it, always looked so inviting, very much “Old World”.

This place is just fantastic and like Mike said Majestic!! Would love to be able to visit such a place. Your capture is just a wonderful composition of all that surrounds it.

  • Hi Ciana, it’s really a grand old hotel, very European in style both inside and out. They picked a perfect site for it. I’ll post some others to show it from other angles.

Incredible capture! I can see why this was on George’s bucket list! It might have to go on mine now…lol. joni

  • Hi Joni, Many thanks..George says to just put Canada’s Rocky Mountain parks on your list and you can’t go wrong with any of them..lol! We can’t decide which one we love the most, but Waterton is nice because it’s the smallest of the parks and very easy to get around, but very beautiful too.
