Southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, is blessed with the mildest climate in the country. Spring comes early and one of the delights is seeing the flowering cherry trees bursting into bloom. Taking a walk through downtown Victoria reveals streets lined with rows of blossoms, but here and there we find an old-timer who prefers to wait for awhile before showing it’s beauty. In this case, a Garry Oak stands aloof and offers a stark contrast to the profusion of blooms.
