The rain forests of British Columbia, Canada, are some of the largest in the world. Exploring such a forest one can see the results; ancient trees, some over 1,000 years old, and moss..moss growing on everything, such as these smaller trees in MacMillan Provincial Park near Port Alberni. Average annual rainfall here is 177 cm (70 in.) which comes mostly in the winter months, starting in November. Westerly flow of air off the Pacific brings the moist air and the mountain ranges along the coast trap it almost as soon as it hits land.
