Along the highway to Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Cathedral Grove is a protected area of old-growth Douglas Fir rain forest which is part of the MacMillan Provincial Park. Some of these giant trees are over 800 years old. A very severe windstorm on New Year’s Day 1997 toppled hundreds of these trees and destroyed many of the trails, but it also opened the canopy to allow sunlight to penetrate and nourish new growth.
Taken late September 2009, Sony DSCF828 camera.
