Artist's Description

Temple of Apollo ruin, Selinunte, south-west Sicily, Italy. Circa 650BC.

The temple is part of a huge site, once a large Greek town, situated on a now silted- up river. On the site, now nothing but tumbled masonery was a temple to Zeus that was the largest ever ever built in the Greek world. It was destroyed by Hannibal.
