Painting Flowers by

Original Artwork is Acrylics on 24×30 inch stretched canvas

Well….it’s about time I finished her! :) I started on this piece about 3 years ago. Well, 3 years ago, I painted the blue background, the red heart, and the silver frame…I had intended on this piece being another one of my Faerie Trees, but with the background done, that just didn’t feel right. So, the canvas sat….and sat….and sat…and sat….

I started getting into Pop Surrealism, and fell in love with the art of Kukula about the time that Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland came out. With the mix of those things and the Alice soundtrack, I created a sketch of the girl in the middle – my Alice. I had planned on making her into a colored pencil piece, but she seemed to be telling me that she belonged in the heart. So, there she went. The flowers and the hummingbirds all just poured onto the canvas soon after. This was a difficult piece for me to finish, as all of the detailing was done during my last 2 weeks of pregnancy and the first three months of my little man’s life….5 minutes of painting here, a half hour there…I must say, I’m quite proud of myself for actually finishing her! :)

Now….please enjoy the song that she was partially inspired by:

Sooooooooo BEAUTIFUL- I have enjoyed watching its progress- stunning work. I love the birds and flowers too :)) xx

  • Thanks so much Anita! :) She has been a labor of love, that’s for sure! I tried out some new ways of painting with this one and I think I like it! I was always either trying to fill in a background later or trying not to paint the background into the sketched area. With this, since I already had the background done, I sketched in things on top, then filled in the entire area with white gesso….then I painted in the colors. I like how bright everythign turned out because of it.
