Thank you yvonca. First I sprayed alcohol on the watercolor paper, then sprayed watercolor paint and the alcohol made the first layer of watercolor hold fast.

Then I laid grasses from my yard and sprayed more watercolor on top of that. This is the result! It was amazing that the alcohol made it so the top layer of watercolor didn’t run or muddy the bottom layer. Hope that makes sense : )
