Pudge the Beaver

Lynn Oliver

Star Tannery, United States

Artist's Description

Beavers are the largest rodent in the US. They create dens (called “dams”) in creeks and flood areas, which is considered a nuisance by some people. Others consider it a benefit because they create a wetlands environment.

Beavers are gentle creatures. They are tender parents to their young, who stay with them for two years.

This particular beaver is called “Pudge,” and is a beaver who is in rehab with a licensed VA wildlife rehabber. There’s a part of Pudge’s tail missing… it happened when he was a baby, and may have been part of what made him an orphan.
