A modern style painting of an ancient adversary, the prehistoric Tyrannosaurus Rex.

I have had re-occuring dreams about T-Rexes for almost twenty years now so I thought I’d paint one.

Acrylic, gouache and liquid gold leaf on wood panel. 24 × 18″.

Original artwork is for sale. Please email redeye@designbyredeye.com with inquiries or visit www.lynnetteshelley.com to view more of my artwork and print sales.

Some photos of the original painting before I touched up the teeth.

Having a great love animals, fairytales, and world mythology, Pennsylvania artist Lynnette Shelley fuses these influences into her strikingly unique illustrations. Her artwork strikes a primal chord in many viewers, with almost Jungian associations to the colors and shapes. Her artworks have been likened to images from an undiscovered ancient civilization or culture.

This is very cool, Lynnette. Love the vibrant colors and the fieriness suits what we know of his personality. :D I’ve had a fascination with dinosaurs for over 20 years now. And I do believe he’s the friendliest looking T-Rex I’ve ever seen. :D Hope your recurring dreams aren’t nightmares!

  • well, they sort of are more ‘tense adventures’ lol. but sometimes during the course of these dreams I realize I am dreaming and then start “fixing” things in the dream so that I have the upper hand. But yeah I love dinosaurs. Thanks for your comment

Excellent Lynnette! The gold is great as is the bold design. The teeth are great with the black :-))))))

  • Thanks for your advice earlier Stephen! BTW some people came over my little “studio” (aka spare bedroom) and saw your “All at Sea” picture and they thought it was amazing

Another superb work my friend. Love the fabulous colours. I know acrylic can be very frustrating at times and I now underpaint and block in all my colours and then finish in oils, works great is cost affective and gives me the depth of colour I like.

  • thanks for the advice Tahnja. I may do that in future
