In many mythologies, birds were seen as omens and messengers of the gods.

Having a great love animals, fairytales, and world mythology, Pennsylvania artist Lynnette Shelley fuses these influences into her strikingly unique illustrations. Her artwork strikes a primal chord in many viewers, with almost Jungian associations to the colors and shapes. Her artworks have been likened to images from an undiscovered ancient civilization or culture.

LOVELY A GOLDEN MOMENT !liZ
This work evokes the masterful animated film “Secret of Kells” (Academy Award, Best Film animation 2010, I believe). The style is very similar in some respects. If you haven’t viewed this film you might want to.
You’re the third person to tell me to go watch that film. I have it saved on Netflix. I guess I better watch it! Anyway, I’ve seen the real book of kells, and have some reproductions of it. It’s what inspired me when I was a teenager to start exploring celtic art.

You mentioned you saw the real Book of Kells. So, did I in Ireland several times at TCD library where it has been permanently housed for decades. Of course, this was before your time. But, the B of K. was actually on tour in the US around 1977-78. I saw it again at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, on the US tour. BTW, on your web page you show Ambler. I’m in Hatfield, PA. Being in Ambler, I guess you’ve been to The Shenachie. If not, check it out.
HI Edmond
Yes, my mom is from Ireland (Dublin) so I’ve been there many times to visit relatives. I did not know the BofK went on tour. I would have been too little to appreciate it at the time though. I know where Hatfield is, not too far. I’ve only been in Ambler three months now but I have been to the Shanachie. I’m only a block away from there.

This reminds me of a woodcut, very nicely done, Lynette
Beautiful work, I love the focus on just one bird and the intricate detail within the shapes. Also the monochromatic scheme in this is great, and the dots in the light field being more subdued really works…carries the pattern but does not overwhelm. Expert handling of all the elements, it really is superb!
