about 23×33 inches or so.
Collage, Ink, Tea, Coffee, Liquid Gold Leaf, Gold Paint Pen, Black Gouache, Colored Pencils, Oil Pastel and White Acrylic on white Stonehenge and handmade deckled cream-colored Punjab paper.

I started off with a sketch of the impala on the Stonehenge paper. After inking in the outlines and some initial work on the head, I accidentally tore the paper and rather than throw it all away, I cut out the impala shape, which the tear hadn’t reached, and then pasted it on the handmade Punjab paper. Before pasting it on though, I stained (on purpose) the Punjab paper with tea and coffee, which, with the deckled edges, kind of gave it an animal hide look.

I kept the colors to strictly browns, gold, creams, ivory and black for an overall earthy tone.

Having a great love animals, fairytales, and world mythology, Pennsylvania artist Lynnette Shelley fuses these influences into her strikingly unique illustrations. Her artwork strikes a primal chord in many viewers, with almost Jungian associations to the colors and shapes. Her artworks have been likened to images from an undiscovered ancient civilization or culture.

Might be a candidate for the group: Black.White, Duo & Contrast.

  • I was thinking of that but there are other colors in here besides black and white. I guess I can submit and see if it gets rejected or not.

Lynnette, I love all of your work, but this is my personal favorite!! Excellent:)))!

  • I could see that Catherine because this is a similar color palette to some of your own work, which is very beautiful by the way. Thanks for your comments

Love the palette! I get a little Egyptian feel from the left border, which I really like.
I studied mythology and greek art and archeology and found those cultures so rich
artistically. Minoan civilization was my fave. You use symbols so well and
freely. It always recalls a different time to me.
Wish you great success with this!

  • Thanks Maryann. Glad you saw that. I was going for a bit of art deco there. Some people like that border and others aren’t sure about it but felt it was needed there. Thanks very much for your comments.

I cannot believe how frequently you just “hit it” with your pieces. Every one seems to be as good as the last or better. Hopefully people will one day clamor for one of your originals. Wowsers! Keep going!!!! You rock!!!

  • Thanks Jerry, I really appreciate your comments. This artwork is most likely going to a new gallery that is going to rep my work. The owner seems to really want to promote me (as opposed to just sticking your art on the wall and letting dust collect) and he has a client list so hopefully this will lead to more recognition for my work.
