colored pencils, marker pen and paint pen on red watercolor paper

jaguar, panther, big cat, cat, animal, leopard, wildlife, lion, feline

Having a great love animals, fairytales, and world mythology, Pennsylvania artist Lynnette Shelley fuses these influences into her strikingly unique illustrations. Her artwork strikes a primal chord in many viewers, with almost Jungian associations to the colors and shapes. Her artworks have been likened to images from an undiscovered ancient civilization or culture.

I love being first to comment :) This is excellent work. I use coloured pencils a lot and watercolour too, but have never used marker pens for ages. Hey – the more I look at this the more impressed I become.

  • You know I drew for many many years, then took up oil painting in college and worked strictly in oil. Then I stopped doing art for a while but when I took it up again a few years ago, I went back to my roots and I really enjoyed working with primarily pens or oil pastels or colored pencils. Now I mix up all three usually.

Anyway, thank you for your kind words. This was a smaller artwork of mine that I ended up giving to some friends of mine earlier this year.

Please don’t give up drawing and painting ever again Lynette – your work is truly wonderful.

  • No worries on that! I quit my day job so I could do this more. (Now I freelance). I am totally addicted to making art at this point. I usually make at least one artwork per week or more if they are smaller pieces.

Hi Lynnette, I really love your work. My first love is drawing too, at the moment I am working a lot with watercolour pencils, and I love it. I have spent the last few years trying to master painting in acrylics, but have decided to go back to mainly drawing, so I know where you’re coming from. Your work is wonderful, I envy you your “freelance” status; All the best, Lyn :)

  • hi lyn, thanks for your comments. I was eyeing a pack of watercolour pencils earlier today actually lol. I will check out your portfolio
