A Celtic-inspired artwork depicting a dragon and a lion wrestling in a tangled knot
In some mythologies, the lion represents physical strength or the physical body, while the serpent or dragon represents wisdom or the intellect. So this artwork personifies the struggles of the physical vs. the intellectual (or heart vs. mind) that we sometimes go through….
Created with oil pastels, colored pencils, art pens and paint pens on textured orange watercolor paper.

Having a great love animals, fairytales, and world mythology, Pennsylvania artist Lynnette Shelley fuses these influences into her strikingly unique illustrations. Her artwork strikes a primal chord in many viewers, with almost Jungian associations to the colors and shapes. Her artworks have been likened to images from an undiscovered ancient civilization or culture.

just LOVE this one! Welcome aboard!
Thank you Patricia. This is one of my faves too, although the colors did not come out quite the way they should be in this photo I took of the artwork. Still working on my photography skills ;) I plan on making a second one of these, as a companion piece, at some point.
Lovely work .Have you ever seen The Book of Kells, this reminds me of that book.Regards.
HI Macquaid. yes I am very familiar with the Book Of Kells, I have a repro of some of it at home. Actually, I would credit the Book of Kells with starting me down this particular artistic path when I was 17 or 18.
