A Little Bird Told Me (Self-Portrait with Celtic Hair)
Drew this for a self-portrait contest. This is also my first ever self-portrait, beyond a couple of exercises in art classes when I was younger. I obviously took some liberties here ;)
I didn’t get some aspects of the portrait quite right (the nose and the chin are not quite right for example, and I have a much paler skin tone), but this is perhaps how I would look in another reality ;)
Mixed media on heavy textured purple watercolor paper (Canson). Original measures 19×12.5”

Lynsye Medalia
I really love the look and colors in this one! I think this may be my favorite of yours yet!
Lynnette Shelley replied
Thanks Lynsye. I am a bit bugged because the face is not quite right (for a self-portrait) BUT as a regular face I like it as it looks more “real” than some of my other faces.
rob2
Stunning.I love it . Whats the bird of paradise saying to you?????
Lynnette Shelley replied
It’s saying, “Pssst. I think you need some conditioner to detangle your hair”. lol.

OMG!!!! I love it! What a fabulously gorgeous composition!!!! This is so beautiful! You need to be famous;the sooner the better!!!! Your work is so individualized . Wow! This is my most favorite to date. The perfect combination of contrast between back and forground, color and light and just perfect design elegance. You so rock!!! AGAIN!
Lynnette Shelley replied
I am glad you like it Rhino. Now when are we going to see more stuff from YOU! :D
MoonSpiral
I definately see you in her. I never am happy with my self-portraits and have never posted any. I think this is beautiful Lynnette. You made yourself look like a wise and beautiful goddess, what’s wrong with that?
Lynnette Shelley replied
ha ha. thanks. I kept going back and forth because first I was trying to “fix” flaws and then I was like, no can’t do that, and went in the opposite direction and then I looked like a sea harpy. can’t win! lol.
Ming Myaskovsky
My exotic Jungle Queen, this spelled MESMERIZING!

Hi Lynette
Fabulous work once again. This is definitely you in a past and ancient life and that is why the color for the skin remained as dark as it did. You have gone through an initiation/ceremony in relation to the Fire bird/Phoenix and it was the third level in relation to that initiation as shown by the three layers above the bird. The bird does want to tell you something!! and if you sit quietly with a pen in hand and just allow that message to flow out onto the page. The rest of the painting will talk to you also in relation to the colors, the symbols and the numbers of things on the page. The golden flame above the third eye feels like it wants to be lowered to that position. Ther also feels to be a strong connection of the celtic traditions and the early stages of the nile delta…just after Atlantis and the beginning of Egypt. There is also a strong feel of music( in the doing sense) from the infinity symbol on the right side of your ear.
Love and light
Peter
