Queen of Hearts (Off With Their Heads!)

Queen of Hearts (Off With Their Heads!)

First artwork in a new series I am working on inspired by the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this iconic image, a beautiful but dangerous Queen of Hearts as femme fatale draws her finger across her throat to signify her threatening intentions.

“The Queen had only one way of settling all difficulties, great or small. ‘Off with his head!’ she said, without even looking round.”
-Lewis Carroll, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland “

Original artwork measures 19×25 inches, mixed media on gray Strathmore watercolor paper. This artwork took about twelve hours to complete over a two-day period.

oh wow, she’s lovely! Love the colours and the patterns, as always (wow, that dress ..!!!) but especially the expression on her face … really wicked because she has such a sweet face but we know she’s serious about it.

  • Lynnette Shelley replied

Thanks Barbara. My husband was laughing at me because I kept smirking into the mirror trying to get the expression right but I am afraid I am not very good at making sly and devious faces lol.

Lynnette, this is absolutle wonderful. Love that iconic twist to it…her hair, jewelry and dress bits have a certain pressed metal look to it, kind of reminds me of the Spanish icon work in New Mexico.
