The Red Horse

The Red Horse

A colorful stylized red horse prances on a gold background. Oil pastels and gold paint on watercolor paper. The many layers of oil pastel was “texturized” with crosshatching by an exacto knife.

I had given up doing artwork seriously for many years and this was my first artwork that I completed after I decided to go back to my arts roots and I quit my day job and became a full time artist / designer. (2007)

wonderful color and design. has a neo-expressionist quality to it and at the same time ancient wall work and even elements of cave paintings.

  • Lynnette Shelley replied

Thank you so much. I had mostly stopped doing art for several years at one point and this is one of my first works when I decided to become “serious” about art again. It’s still one of my personal favorites. it took a while to make because of the many layers of oil pastels that I put down, then scraped away with an exacto knife for texturizing purposes.

This thing moves and has feeling. Stompin anger and twisting rage. The hot orange red and yellow are nicely outlined and buffered with that wonderful blue. Way to fill a space! Love it love it love it!!!!! Sincerely RVG
