This Great Northern Railroad Observation Car was always the last car on a passenger train powered by a steam locomotive. Passengers could lounge on the deck and watch where they had been. This old car sits abandoned in an old railroad yard in Silver City, Montana

What a waste! There are so few people to restore these old beauties, and so little money to do it with… I’ll bet there was somebody that gave speeches off that old deck. Hubby wants to know if the caboose ran behind it to look for smoking brakes. And I know there are a some RR Groups here on RB if you search Railroad in the Groups pages. You got a really good pic.
You know… this fits Don’t Fence Me In, too.

  • Thanks for your comments and your great suggestions. I never thought about “Don’t Fence Me In”…I’ll give it a try…Lynn

What a shame, she was a real beauty. Nice shot. JB

  • I really hate to see these old relics rusting away. I don’t know if these old cars are sitting around waiting to be restored (I sure hope so) or not. This old car was a beauty in it’s day…Lynn

I love trains… if this car could talk, wow, the many stories it could tell. She’s a beauty, too bad she’s gettin’ all rusty. But fantastic capture of her ; )

  • I have always had a fascination for trains. My Dad worked for the Railway Express Agency on the Southern Pacific. I believe this observation car is in line for restoration…Thanks for commenting Terri-Lynn…Lynn

I love these old cars, I walked through the ones at Nevada City one time. In their time, they were opulent!

  • There is something magical about trains. I am a train lover, Donna…Lynn
