This was public transport, 1850’s style. The Geelong to Ballarat stagecoach heads up Main Street at Sovereign Hill towards the Soho Foundry. With an average speed of 10-12 km/h over a bumpy bush track, the trip would have been long and uncomfortable by today’s standard. Amazingly the coaches could hold up to 17 passengers, plus mail and luggage (and people complain about overcrowded trains today!!).
