I was really happy that Hans Kawitzki allowed me to use his beautiful image of the Moorabool River…….

Moorabool River – Geelong
by Hans Kawitzki

The Moorabool River is close to Geelong, and I really loved the atmosphere Hans captured in this somewhat complicated subject. I find painting water quite a challenge too! AND…… Look what Gregory Pastoll wrote about this painting!!! Thank you so much Greg!!!!

Upon reflection/this confection/sweetly passes all inspection/to say it’s cool is insufficient/ for the notion is deficient: water’s in abundance here/and so is skill with mist, that’s clear. Look a little longer, see/Lynda’s left off every tree/whatever leaves there should not be/and warmed the front and lit the back/like some alchemic almanac/with magic spells, imbued the place/with nature’s great compelling grace.

    This is spooky nice Lynda…lol.

  • Ha Ha! Yes, it is a bit ‘spooky’. You half expect a couple of goblins to be peering at you from behind those trees! Thanks for the great comment Mick. Always good to hear from you.

Like the tone value changes in the trees and they progress forward and you’ve always had a fine ability to get both shadows and reflections (object and light) in a realistic believable way Lynda. Gorgeous pastel work.

  • What a fantabulous comment Jim. When I looked at Hans’ photo I was so taken by the tones that I just had to ask him if I could ‘borrow’ it! It was more complicated than I expected but I really enjoyed painting this one.

You’re a master at this Lynda! I love the cool feeling and the little glimpse of warm light. I can sense the canopy above and being enclosed in a special spot. This is really beautiful.

  • What a really lovely comment Hillie. Thank you so much for the in depth feedback. Very much appreciated.

you made more detail then the image :-)
    great work…

  • Ha Ha! Well I had to bring those front trees ‘forward’ somehow limon, so I livened up the colours and enhanced the details. This was a lot of fun. Hans is a ‘master’ photographer! He really knows how to make a great composition. Thanks for this great comment.
