Pastel on Canson Mi-Teinte ‘Tex’ Paper (Burgundy) 75cm x 55cm

I’ve been working on this one on and off for a couple of weeks, and finally got it finished today! I used a few reference photos which I took in a shed near Tarcombe a couple of years ago.

Featured in Art Universe – October 2012

I am a pastel artist living in country Victoria, Australia. My subjects vary, ranging from landscapes, portraiture, animal studies, figurative, life drawing, still life and I find the challenge of painting water particularly enjoyable.

Very nice Lynda – I really like the lime green singlet top!

  • That singlet added a bit of pizzazz to a fairly dark scene!!! LOL! Gone are the days when they all used to wear navy blue singlets!!!! Thanks for the great comment Terri.

Wow Lynda, one really feels after viewing that really seen sheep being sheared. Excellent atmosphere you created.

  • It’s incredible how the times have changed Jim. Year’s ago they all used to wear navy blue singlets, and they didn’t have those harnesses to support their backs. I was thinking of leaving the harnesses out, but then it wouldn’t have been the authentic scene. I added that piece of fleece at the front as an afterthought. That is the ‘belly’ fleece, and the first shearer is just finishing the belly, so he would then fling that on the floor before the ‘rousabout’ (shed hand) came along to pick it up. This one is going to an Art Show at Ruffy (farming country up in the hills) and I am sure it will be well studied by all the local farmers, so I had to get everything right! LOL! Lovely to hear from you Jim.
