Pastel on Mi Teinte ‘Tex’ sanded surface paper (burgundy ) 75 xm x 55cm

This is what I see when I step out of my studio on a summer’s evening at about 6.00 p.m.! I finished this about an hour ago (14/3/2011). I am surrounded by ‘Ironbark Country’ so it is an immediately available resource for subject material when I am struggling for ideas!

I have 4 art shows to cover between now and Easter, so this will be going into one of them!

  • You is quick of the mark Catherine! Thanks for the great comment! I am pretty pleased with this myself! Started it a couple of days ago and have been working on this and another one both at the same time. This won the race to be the first finished! LOL!

I don’t know how you do it Lynda – you create colours in landscapes that are so magical and creative and yet they work so well. You take the mundane and make it gorgeous. I am the one gobsmacked when I view your work. I know you always worked on the Colourfix before and now I see you are using the Mi Teintes. How do you find this in comparison? To me it has a slightly finer grit and is a bit easier to get the detail.

  • Thanks for this brilliant comment Karen. You know, it took me quite awhile to ‘see’ the colours that are in the Australian landscape! When I first started painting everything was ‘browns’ and ‘greens’!! LOL! When you really LOOK there are so many beautiful colours in our world. McCubbin and Streeton saw the beauty of the Australian bush as it really is!
I am LOVING this Mi Teinte sanded paper. The colours are a bit richer, and the texture is extremely even. It is also a slightly larger size which I like, but it has added a bit of cost to my frames!!! (SOB)!

A beautiful and serene afternoon, Lynda; gorgeous warm light. I can almost smell the Eucalypts! Wonderful work. Bev

  • The bush is really ‘jumping’ this year after all the rain we’ve had Bevan. So different from a couple of years ago when the foliage was so ‘thin’. Now all is lush for the first time in many years. Thanks for this fantastic comment.

Strewth!! ya just painted Australia’s first $5,000 note, it’s called a “Robbo”. It’ll look grand, all framed up and should jump off the wall at one of those shows! cheers M.

  • Hee Hee!!!! G’donya Jonesey! I have actually put it in a frame now and it looks pretty good. I am thinking of putting it in the Herald Sun Camberwell Art Show, but then I think it will pale into insignificance alongside so many amazing artworks! Will see how my next one turns out, and then decide. I’ve got two easels on the go at the moment!!!! LOL! When I get a bit tired of one painting I move onto the other!!!

Beautiful work as always and a lovely place to live!!

  • Thanks heaps Norah. It is a lovely place to live, but having a ‘proper’ garden is a bit of a struggle as the soil is mainly gravel!!! LOL! Then there are the wallabies and cockies to contend with when you DO get something growing, not to mention the rabbits! Wallabies seem to be drawn to my petunias!!!! LOL! They have demolished several potloads this year!

I know that I have said this before, but I just love the atmosphere you manage to get in all of your paintings. You give me something to aim for :)

  • You are very kind to me Dianne! Thank for the great comment. When I look out of the window right now this minute, the bush looks just like this! I love this time of day.
