My Little Mozart

Artist's Description

Pastel on Colourfix Paper (burgundy) 50cm x 35cm

April 2010 Juried Invitational Exhibition

This is the ‘light of my life’! My grandson Thomas, aged 2 and a half. It is impossible to describe the experience or think of anything that matches the emotion of becoming a ‘Nanna’ – unconditional, overwhelming love!!! Of course he is the next Mozart in my eyes, but his current compositions are less than Mozartlike!!!! (Just ask his grandfather)! If he doesn’t become a concert pianist, maybe he could play cricket for Australia.

I made a few minor adjustments as a couple of my harshest critics (LOL) thought I had too much white in the jacket, so I’ve toned it down a bit, and darkened some areas. I think it is an improvement.

This beautiful Poem was written especially for this painting by Adgray…….

!“Whatcha playing?”
‘I love Granma”
“How’s it go?”
‘Like this”

You can feel the gentle rhythm
hear the notes softly floating
you can see the love shining
as he studies his concerto

There’s a trill up in the high notes
and an echo way down low
“That’s us laughing you know”
he smiles as he continues his concerto

Now there’s a tangle of notes running
as he tells of how you’re playing
a soft stroked single note
“when you push me on the swing!”

and then a gentle arpeggio
so very softly played
repeated over and over
and you feel the sway
“that’s when you rock me on your lap while we nap!”

The last note he plays is a tiny little thing
but he lets the echo of it ring and ring and ring
“That’s our last kiss goodbye as I go on home”
and thus ends his love concerto!!
