Fields of Gold - Tallarook by Lynda Robinson

Pastel on Colourfix paper (burgundy) 50cm x 35cm

This is a familiar sight in my area at this time of year. The smell of freshly mown hay is in the air and beautiful rolls of hay are to be seen everywhere, ready for storage as summer stockfeed.

I completed this painting last weekend (29/11/09) and was pleased with the way it turned out. I kept to a limited palette of colours, concentrating on the yellow/purple complementaries.

    Beautiful as always
Your awareness of the tones & colours in a scene is amazing
I wonder how many other artiists would use the same pallette as you..
    love it, another LR fave

  • Thanks for a fantastic comment Mike. As per usual though, I am so unhappy with the way it photographed, because I was sooo pleased with this painting! The original is much more subtle, and that bluey-green roll is not nearly so prominent!!!

This is truly stunning Lynda! Your concentration on the quality of the light is always a beautiful and unifying aspect of all your work. The limited palette and use of complementary colours has further enhanced the quality of the light.

  • What a fantastical comment Sandra! I was very pleased with the way this one turned out. The framing really enhances it too – a rusty coloured moulding and a thin gold slip between two ivory matts.

Bravo indeed, your work is so often so complex and stunning. Even with a limited palette the work is so evident and the effect still so masterful! Awesome!

  • Thank you very much Tahnja. This is a great comment.

  • That’s right – except they were fields of barley weren’t they!!!! ‘Hay’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!!!! Thanks for a great comment Wayne.
