Charcoal on white textured Pastel Paper – 40cm x 55cm

I started this at our life drawing group a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t get time to finish it on the day. I had enough information to continue working with it, so I finished it in the studio yesterday.

I am a pastel artist living in country Victoria, Australia. My subjects vary, ranging from landscapes, portraiture, animal studies, figurative, life drawing, still life and I find the challenge of painting water particularly enjoyable.

Your work on this is brilliant.

  • Thanks heaps ‘Nell’. I am enjoying messing around with charcoal, and finding all the different ‘levels’ of shading required for the human form is so interesting.

Very nice Lynda, your shadowing tones are done very well. A lot of artist don’t understand the importance of maintaining your life study skills.

  • Sandra and I were discussing this today Jim, and we are hoping to increase our life drawing sessions to once a fortnight rather than once a month. It is so helpful in all aspects of art.

wow!!! I’m very impressed Lynda!!! mate you rock!!!
It’s so natural looking the pose, & I love the contrast too, looks like you are great with monochrome tones as well huh :)

  • Well! – I will just pick meself up off the floor! What a GREAT comment coming from a monochrome ‘master’! I was unsure what to do with the background, but I added shading on the side where the light was strongest. Do you think it is enough? Backgrounds are always a hassle!!!!!
