Catching Up at Upton by Lynda Robinson

Currently unavailable for purchase

Pastel on brown Canson paper – 50cm x 35cm

A study of ‘body language’ at a Clearing sale! Upton is a small community in the hills in the Tarcombe area of Victoria. ‘Clearing’ sales are held when a farm is sold and all the goods and chattels are auctioned off. It is as much a social gathering as a sale. If you can’t find a bargain at least you can have a good yarn!

This painting was sold at the Ruffy Art Show in 2005.

hi Lynda this is …oh gee super duper v ery impressive! so much patience [on your part!! ! Was this in the Ausie Art mag? I don’t get it any more. got sick of too many ads

  • Thanks Ginny. No – I have never had anything in the Aussie Art magazine. I used to subscribe to it, but now I flick through it in the newsagents, and buy it if there is anything that looks interesting.

Hi Lynda, This is fantastic. The realism portrayed is stunning. The detail you are able to get with pastels is truely amazing. I wish I could do pastels like this. I’ve never really tried I suppose, but I’d love to learn how to do this.

  • Thanks for another great comment Paul. You are so good at drawing, so I know you would do extremely well with pastel. Give it a try man! Have you seem Simon Aberle’s work on the Bubble? You guys have a similar style. He has just started playing with pastel too.

And I, too, am amazed at the detail you are able to achieve, Lynda! So very impressive, my dear friend! You captured the expressions so well on the two men in front, that I can almost hear what they’re saying! No lie! Pat xxx

  • You make me smile Pat. The big chap in front with the white hat on is a friend of ours, and he got quite a shock to learn that he had been included in one of my paintings!

great work, I like the combination of foreground textures and blended background, very natural poses too

  • Many thanks Mariart. It was a warm day and the wind was swirling dust around, so hopefully you get that impression.

This is so great Lynda. I love to see your work. The shadows on the ground are done so well…it’s really something to see. I feel like I am there and can almost hear these people talking……amazing

  • Thanks Kate. I love your comments! I have another one in my ‘profile’ in a similar vein called ‘A box of Sundries’. I haven’t done any ‘people’ paintings for awhile now, so perhaps I should go to some more clearing sales to get some subject matter!

Love this! I just went to a local oyster roast and took plenty of photos with the intention of doing something with a similar feel to it that this has. Wonderful piece of art.

  • Oh that sounds great Jim. I will look forward to seeing what you come up with! Thanks for the great comment my friend!
