Pastel on Canson paper (brown) – 80cm x 60cm

This dates back several years (I’m thinking about 20) and was sold ages ago. It was the first still life I ever did with pastel. The books are from a set of Dickens which belonged to my mother-in-law and I bought the ‘Venus’ statue at a market! I set them up with the apples and the basket and switched a spotlight on.

This is just gorgeous , right up my street . I love it , a fav for sure .

  • hank you so much Irene. I thought it was time I added something else to the ‘still life’ group!!! Unfortunately, it is not the best quality image because it was taken on an old camera and is a scanned photograph.

An excellent composition of a still life, Lynda. The details are amazing.

  • Composition and details might be O.K. Joseph, but the figurine is a bit out of proportion! (Adgray picked up on this too)! Thanks so much for the lovely comment.

Lynda, the figurine might be out of proportion, I noticed the first book a bit out of shape, but it’s still an excellent pastel detailed sketch.

  • You are far too kind Joseph! This was actually the first still life I ever did with pastel.

Oh this is just magnificient, perfect for me !
the books seem so real and you are very patient
for drawing ALL the little details…(I would have been fed up wih them all ….)
This is totaly mind blowing because it’s not easy to do. Very well done Lynda

  • Thanks Corinne. You are very kind to me. I can hardly remember doing it, it was so long ago!!!! I do remember realising that the figure was out of whack and thinking I should have just stuck with the apples. It was a good learning process and my first ever still life using pastel.

You really are a master at pastels! This is amazing.

  • You are very kind to say that Doug, but I feel a bit embarrassed when I look at it now and see all the ‘annoyances’.
