Pastel on Sandpaper (Burgundy Colourfix) 35cm x 50cm

This is my beautiful daughter in law (and the mother of my three beautiful grandchildren). I did this painting when she and my son announced that she was expecting our first grandchild (and I didn’t believe them)!!!! I will keep this painting and give it to my grandson for his 21st Birthday!!!!

  • Thanks again Barb – I am also very impressed with your gallery – particularly your ‘cats’. (We are becoming quite a mutual admiration society)!

Great portrait. I love that reflected blue on the chin and hair. I’m taking a guess in thinking most of your work in about A3 or a little bigger. Incidently, do you wear your fingers down with that sandpaper?

  • This is my daughter in law Brian. I use paper that is 75 × 55cm as a full sheet, so that would be roughly A3ish (I think) and then I do half sheets and quarter sheets. I also use large pastel boards – I’m terrible with sizes! I would have to get the tape measure out and let you know. YES, I do wear my fingers down. Quite a few of my paintings would have some of my DNA included, because I have been known to make my fingers bleed!!!!!

Hey, just think, when we’re all passed and gone and those art experts are trying to authenticate a masterpiece, they’ll use your DNA as a clincher. Bleeding fingers! They do say one has to suffer for one’s art….a pain in the art perhaps….but I never new why.

  • I am ROARING with laughter Brian!
