Paul Starkey
Absolutely stunning, fantastic work…again.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks heaps Paul. I appreciate your very positive support and your great comment.
Diko
Terrific portrait of one of our rural soldiers. His expression is one I’ve seen many times from farmers looking over their pastures or cattle/sheep evaluating thier the weathe or crops . Great work. Good luck at the Seymore show
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Diko. Yes, you can tell a farmer by their squinty eyes!!!!! LOL!!
LTScribble
very nice :0)....what is that texture towards the bottom right and a little on the shirt….u really did an awesome job…..
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks heaps LT. The texture is just lighter pastel ‘scumbled’ over the top of other darker colours and left unblended.
Tahnja
wow Lynda, really something special. But maybe too much heat in the skin tones? It’s very, very red but maybe that’s what you wanted to portray :o)
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks for the comment Tahnja. I know what you mean about the heat in the skin tones! I had trouble getting a good reproduction of the ‘true’ colours in the photo of the painting. In the original work the skin tones look fine.
robynart
Another Winner He looks like a farmer too !!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks heaps Robyn.
Simon Aberle
Another fantastic Portrait lynda, I love how you have left the bottom in a loose fashion.
Great composition overall!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks heaps Simon. I enjoyed this painting very much.
Tahnja
Maybe I can help, for the shadow area to be so hot then the light source must be cool in temperature. Are you aware of this light source rule? I can see that in the shadow area where the light source is reflected that they are cool on colour, the light splashes of blues show that. Hmmm, maybe adding a little burnt umber to the darkest shadow areas will tone down the very hot red. Burnt umber is still a warm shadow colour but might add a little more depth and settle the red and tame it some more. And maybe just a little deeper blue reflected light will make it look more balanced in temperature?
What do you think? I love your work and this is just so skillful. I am simply making suggestions that might help but if you feel it’s better to leave it then it’s still an amazing work of art Lynda. You are amazing!
Lynda Robinson replied
I appreciate what you are saying very much Tahnja. It is a problem with my camera rather than with the colours I used. In the original painting the colours are not as ‘raw’ as portrayed in this photographic reproduction. The original painting is much ‘softer’. If I manipulated it in Photoshop maybe I could get the colours closer to the original painting, but I just uploaded it straight from the camera. Thank you for such a detailed comment.
Lynda Robinson replied
Hi again Tahnja – I have just uploaded another photo which is probably a bit closer to the colours of the original, but I am still not 100% happy with them!
Simon Aberle
I think that Lynda already explained that the colours in the original painting are fine, it was just altered slightly in the photo she used to post on redbubble, Tahnja.
I think it is an awesome painting, and criticism of Lynda’s experience and talent is not required.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you very much for your input too Simon. I realise what Tahnja is saying and I do get really annoyed when my camera doesn’t reproduce the colours correctly. I tried photographing it in the shade, and also in the sun, with a flash and without a flash, but out of half a dozen photos I just couldn’t get the true colours. I often have this problem with my camera. I think maybe the burgundy paper has an influence too.
Lynda Robinson replied
Hi Simon – I have just uploaded another photo. It is a bit closer to the original painting, but I am still not 100% happy with it!!!!
elenaoleniuc
Fantastic portrait Lynda, as always !
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you very much elena.
Linda Callaghan
wonderful portrait Lynda with a Y! Love the way you have caught his expression…gazing intently over the land..beautiful colours, and I love the way the light is portrayed on his profile with touches of white. :-) another winner!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks heaps Linda. If you read the above comments made by Tahnja and Simon, you will see that I am not happy with the way the photo reproduced, and I reloaded another image, so the colours are slightly different now! They still don’t reflect the original painting, but they are a bit closer. Thanks for your great comment.
Tahnja
Talk about not listening to what I said Simon. I made suggestions in the hope that it might be helpful and it was not a critique and I’m pretty sure Lynda didn’t take it that way either. Some people get their noses out of joint for nothing and don’t read properly!
Thank you Lynda for taking my comments as I meant them and certainly not as a critique on your work. I love your work in every way.
Seeing this new image I agree totally oh talented Lady that the problem appeared to have been the way the camera picked up the intense red. This shot is much softer.
And like I said, its’ wonderful in expression and talent!
annamora
I love the expression Lynda very captivating portrait with a story to tell :)
Lynda Robinson replied
Hello lovely Anna. Thanks for a great comment.
Estelle O'Brien
Awww Lynda you are so talented and your pastel work is such an inspiration to me. You might not have been happy with the photographic reproduction, but the character and life od the portrait is unmistakably excellent!

Jim Phillips
What can I say, that hasn’t been said 10 times over. (I never upload straight from the camera though) The portrait is amazing. Excellent work Lynda.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you for a great comment Jim. Normally I do a bit of ‘tweaking’ in photoshop to get the colours right, but on this occasion I was in a hurry to upload it for a friend who wanted to see it, and who was leaving work at any minute. The second photo looks better than the first, but it is still not 100%

Colombe Cambo...
Lynda, the number of comments on your work shows how talented you are. This is an incredible portrait, Alan must be a very proud man to have been immortalised by you. The light falling on the jumper and the face and the hat is so incredibly natural. His face is especially interesting.
Do you use pastel pencils a lot in the fine details?
Lynda Robinson replied
Many thanks for a such a lovely comment Colombe. (Alan hasn’t seen it yet, so I hope he will like it)!!!! Yes, I do use pastel pencils usually towards the end and very lightly. (I find they are a bit hard). I also use paper stumps which I rub into the soft pastel and apply fine details with them. I also occasionally crush the pastel into powder and use the stumps to apply it!
