High Country Trail Ride

High Country Trail Ride

Pastel on Canson paper (grey) – 50cm x 25cm (I think)!

Another one from my archives!!!! High Country cattlemen in their ‘Drizabone’ coats, and it looks as though they needed them on a dreary, wet day! I usually use my own reference material, but I did something which I rarely do, and used an image I found in a newspaper.

I feel so honoured that ‘Adgray’ has written an amazing poem
Mounted Rescue to compliment this painting!

I love this! Is it new? I have never seen it before! This is a very “moody” piece, Lynda! I can see the river on the right so I am assuming this is a track beside the Goulburn.
A great composition and I really like how you have captured the light and misty effects of a rainy day.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

You were too quick for me Sandra. No it is really really OLD! Sold it years ago. I used a black & white image I found in a newspaper and I recall I liked the atmospherics of the wet day. Had to use some artistic licence!

  • Ken Powers

    Ken Powers

Wow! You totally captured that wet day vibe with this one. I am almost getting shivers looking at it and I live in the Seattle, Washington USA area which is a very rainy place.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

The fact that it is WET shows how long ago I did it Ken. We have had a drought here for the past 10 years! I’d absolutely forgotten about it until I was browsing through some old photos and uploading them to my computer.

  • linmarie

    linmarie

Well,,lady I guess you did, those coats look like they are soaking wet, the one horse looks like he is loosing his footing in the drenched streaming road,, and if they don’t find cover soon they will loose their covers,, hats,, in that miserable wind,, you captured it and from a black and white,, you are fabulous,, love linmarie

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Fantastic comment Linmarie! I’m even feeling wet and cold looking back at it now!!!! The rear end of a horse is much easier to paint than the front end!!!!

  • linmarie

    linmarie

LOL!!!! I guess so,, not as much detail too deal with this is just beautiful,, I definitely felt the dampness mood in this painting,,,sweet dreams,, linmarie

Wonderful work Lynda. I fell wet just looking at this pastel lol. The shading is so very well done and I love the limited palette.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks for a fabulous comment Rodney. It’s a bit of a blurry old image, but it was the best I could scanning it from an ancient photo!

  • Janis Zroback

    Janis Zroback

I like this a lot…I love the fact that you can’t see everything too clearly…somethings are merged in the mist…love the almost monochrome feeling of just a few colours…they seem like men on a mission on a quiet morning, intent on what’s ahead, ignoring the discomfort of the weather, but very much aware of it…there is a lot that is conveyed here, but much is left to the viewers imagination…we can have a dialogue with the scene…really well done Lynda…

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you for a great, detailed comment Janis. I am very grateful for such positive feedback. You have made my day.

You know Lynda, I love this country so much. I’ve been overseas, I was born in Germany and raised in this country and I love every single minute of the land and the animals that have a spirit and a life that is beyond my ability to explain. I work outdoors with racehorses for a wonderful boss who I have so much respect for. Everything about your work and this one as well always reminds me of the deep love I have for this country. The eons of time I have spent out in the heart of the forest and bush on horseback, running, hiking and admiring this great land of ours.

Thank you for the amazing gift you share with us and for the beauty you show!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Wow Tahnja!!!! I only just discovered this fabulous comment! Thank you very much for taking the time to leave me such a detailed comment, and of course I share your love of this amazing country. We are indeed very lucky to live where we do!

Linda, you have definitely captured the mood. The rain, the heavy mist, the horses sloshing through muddy waters. Damn and dreary. I can smell the horses’ damp sweat. I have been on cattle drives in the mountains and I remember well the smell.
