'Men at Work'

Pastel on Canson Mi Teintes paper (brown) – 70cm x 50cm
(565 views 20/12/09)

I spent a most enjoyable afternoon in a local shed sitting on a wool bale scribbling onto a sketch pad and taking some reference photos and this was what I came up with. The Men at Work are Pete and Garry. Pete (the fella with the broom) is my husband. It was quite a few years ago, (in the days when they both still had quite a bit of hair on their heads)!!!!!

I would assume that the original pastel had more detail in the flesh of the shearer, and the wool of the sheep. You have got the action I watched as a kid, but never experienced.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks FM. From my ‘failing memory’ I’m sure there was more detail in the wool which contrasted with the shearer’s elbow. When you look at this they all ‘blend’ together.
