"Mother Nature's Tapestry'

"Mother Nature's Tapestry'

Pastel on Colourfix paper (burgundy) 70cm x 50cm

The lichen growing on the trunk of this tree intertwined with the bark colours for some reason just reminded me of ‘tapestry’! This is a ‘red gum’ eucalypt growing in the cleared area at the bottom of our property and I pass it each day on my morning walk.

G’day Jim. Thanks for a lovely comment. I really enjoyed doing this one, but I didn’t think it would appeal to many people. However, it did sell on about it’s 4th outting to an art show!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks heaps Irene – Does it qualify as a ‘still life’? I was nearly going to add it to the group, but I s’pose that technically it isn’t a SL. It’s not really a ‘landscape’ either! Not sure what category it falls into!

YEP A Carpet bag for sure!
& the morning sun in the trees behind and the softly waking ground tells me you know this place well!
When I was a kid I had an apricot tree limb that I claimed as my “horse” and it’s saddle was an old tapestry cushion. [I would cry to use such today – a tontine is cheaper to replace!] This reminds me of all those happy hours I galloped miles and miles on my horse “Apricot”!!

  • mikebov

It’s these types on images that I love so much about wondering and running through the bush here by the creek, the sound of running water, hugging the massive old gum trees and just plain loving what God has created all around me. I love how this reminds me of all those wonderful moments!

Such BEAUTIFUL work….the colours are so inviting and ‘friendly’, that’s the best word I can think of right now…....hugs…you’re a great artist

  • velvetkatz

    velvetkatz

What a wonderfull painting! Pastel paintings always surprise me, especially something of this quality. It reminded me of a picture of a branch I took in the forest with intent to try and paint it with watercolors. Maybe I should have another go with pastels instead! How many colors do you have in your box? Do you use most of them or just a few favorites?

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you for a very detailed and interesting comment velvetkatz. I find pastels are more ‘forgiving’ than watercolours, so it might be an idea to attempt your branch with pastels – or even start with w/col and finish with pastel!!! My box is quite large! I have several hues of just about every colour you can think of, but I do have my favourite colours and favourite brands which I tend to use most of the time. I would be really interested to see the results if you do have a go at your branch. I just had a quick look at your gallery. Your work is really wonderful!!! I will go back for a more thorough look.
