Moving the Rams

Moving the Rams

Pastel on Colourfix sanded paper – 70cm x 50cm

This was a commission for the chap depicted in the painting and he wanted his little dogs included as well as his prize rams, with a backdrop of his farm. This was 2006 and he had just cut his hay. (the paddock on the right). I don’t think there would be anything like this amount of growth now!

Beautiful Lynda…do you live around places you paint …this is something that I would never see in Canada…I see farms a things like that but not sheep hearding on the road….I’m also amazed at the color you use and how loose you are…it’s obvious your very confident with your work…Is your work national or are you mainly Australia known

  • Margaret Harris

    Margaret Harris

Sorry Lynda I forgot to ask you something…and yes your work is pastel not painting…I used to always use pastel but I found it so fragile.. What is colorfix sanded paper…does it make your pastel less fragile meaning it stays where it is suppose to ? I would really love to spend time with you talking shop xx

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks very much Margaret and to answer some questions – yes, I do live around most of the places I paint. This particular scene is about 20 km from my home. The road in the painting is a farm road, not a public road, but yes, people do move sheep along public roads. I have sold a number of works to overseas buyers, but my main market is Aus. Colorfix is a sandpaper type surface and the pastel does adhere to it well. Once pastel is framed under glass it is much less fragile and the colours will never ever ever fade or change in any way, which is what I love about it. Would love to spend time talking shop with you too Margaret! I will send you a bubble mail after the weekend.

aww love the sheeps , a typical farm scene painted so well, love the colourfix too. just wish it was a bit larger! not that huge size ,but same as Canson. can’t handle doing[painting it on] it myself though always too rough haha not myself of course!!! I spilt a whole jar on my playroom floor once, tempted to paint a pic on it [carpet ]

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Yes I know what you mean about the Colourfix size Ginny. Same as Canson would be good. I do paint it on myself too – had a LOVELY day slopping it around onto various sheets of cardboard last week – and I use a paint roller and water the ‘gunk’ down somewhat so it goes on a bit smoother. It is still rougher than when you buy it ready done though.

Lynda, this is wonderful. I am squinting from the bright sunshine as I view this amazing scene. There is a fantastic sense of distance, light and warmth. I love the sheep, the dogs and the figure of the farmer, who, I am certain, would have been thrilled with this expertly rendered painting.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Awww, thanks so much for a fabulous comment beautiful Bev! Saw the farmer the other day and he told me his son and daughter are fighting about who is going to get it in his will!!!!!

I LOVE how you seem to grace the composition with your love for the ranges – it’s as if they are stroked lovingly into the back ground!
That’s what I think Attracts me to the ranges and your work – the urge to stroke those hills!
and yes that is the light of midday in the area (anywhere in Australia)
the brightness and clarity bleaching the rich colours of our country!
The bloke who has this should be stoked at it hanging in his Lounge room!
    GORGEOUS! ♥

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Just over those hills is Trawool Alyssa! That is ‘Wags Range’ in the background. The light in this country is always very strong isn’t it? I discovered some others I’ve done of the Trawool Valley recently too, so I will upload them eventually. (They are images from my old camera so the quality is a bit below par).

What an incredibly peaceful pastoral. If this represents Australia, then I’m ready to move there. Although I heard rumors that Australia is now the plumpest nation? Is that true? If so, I have to say here because I have enough trouble fighting the battle of the bulge right here in Yank-land. : >D Cheers!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

I am having a little chuckle to myself! Michael I haven’t heard those rumours, but if you WILL insist on exporting Macca’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken what can you expect? By the way, the scene is extremely representative of this area in particular. Let me know your flight number!!!

    Estelle O'Brien

Fantastic work Lynda…perfect colours and classic composition…but what I love most is the light you have painted into the far hills…you have really made them come alive and be an interesting part of the painting, even though they are in the background. Bravo!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you so much Estelle. I’m pleased you like the background hills, because at the time I was thinking I should have ‘subdued’ them, but their colours echoed throughout the whole scene
