Why I Live Where I Live
Pastel on Colourfix sanded paper (burgundy) – 70cm x 50cm
There is a radio program in Australia called ‘Macca on a Sunday Morning’, which explores all aspects of this country. There is a segment in it called ‘Why I live where I live’, and it got me thinking about where I live. I did this painting as part of a solo exhibition (‘My Easel and Eye’) which was held in 2005 and this was the first painting that was sold. Yesterday morning was a glorious autumn morning, and I went for my early morning walk. This same area of the bush looked exactly like this painting!

i must have missed this one lynda, so atmospheric and so true… i loved these kinds of morning in the Victorian bush many years ago…. I am not sure i appreciated them enough then, I shall have to make a HUGE effort to get back to oz and have a look at it again!!! beautiful work lynda xxxx. a total fave!!
Lynda Robinson replied
Well the air fares are coming down Linda! There are some great prices via Qantas at the moment! When you say ‘many years ago’ how long is it since you were here?
Linda Ridpath
now let me see, it was when the old queen was on the throne!!! Actually we were £10 poms way back in 1969, we went to melbourne, had a lovely house just outside eltham, real edge of the bush and on the side of a hill, a beautiful spot. my mum hated it so we came back (i was about 18) in 1971 i think it was. My uncle is still out there in nsw, and i have a cousin who is a brilliant artist who is also in nsw. I have a sneaky feeling that my hubby and i will be going out for a trip in a year or so. so i shall have to look in and say hello!!!!!
Lynda Robinson replied
What an interesting story Linda! Yep – when you get over here you definitely have to call in and say hello! Eltham is a very arty area – you should have stayed!
Linda Ridpath
When I was there it was not arty at all, it was hardly anything really, the most interesting thing was the RSL i think. when i look at google maps and see how its developed its quite mind blowing….. we actually lived in Research a little gathering of houses a few miles outside eltham, now its totally full of houses by comparison…..
Lynda Robinson replied
You wouldn’t recognise Melbourne at all! So much development going on, but it is still a beautiful city.

What a great place to live Lynda and you have captured it beautifully. Lots of atmosphere. Speaking of Macca about 30 years ago I used to go out with his producer Lee Kelly. I knew her as Leonie.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks for a great comment. Good to hear you have ‘rubbed shoulders’ with the famous so to speak! I was listening to Macca yesterday – he can be a bit stuttery at times, but he has some really interesting people on that show.
Terry Everson
Hi Lynda, re Macca, I find he is bad at interviewing some people but your right he does have some interesting people on..
Lynda Robinson replied
I also think he needs to let us listen to the song instead of adding his accompaniment!!! LOL!!!!
