Hi Lynda! I’ve been doing a bit of expressive watercolour, sold a few cards here, working on some book illustration too for lady in US. So yes, been busy :-)

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Good to hear! I just had a quick look at your gallery, and I can see that you have been doing some wonderful work. XO

    Superb character portrait Lynda

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Fanks Josh! His eyes were really difficult because he has those ‘hooded’ deep set eyes that are very very smiley!

  • Marion Chapman

    Marion Chapman

He is fabulous!! what a bummer to have the commissioner cancel on you – how rude!! Hope you sell it before he can have a chance to buy it.
    It’s a fabulous portrait!!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks Marion. That’s life! It was to be a 40th birthday present, and we happen to be attending the same birthday party, so I think I will just give it to the birthday boy as our gift! (It is a portrait of his father). I will be interested to see the reaction of the ‘commissioner’!

  • Linda Callaghan

    Linda Callaghan

amazing Lynda…absolute perfection…it will be interesting to hear what the ‘commissioner’ will say…bet they wish they went ahead with the order after seeing this masterpiece :-D …. love the twinkle in his eye and the happy expression.

    Jazzabel

This is a fantastic painting in pastel. I cannot believe this chap cancelled such a wonderful painting? The character you have caught in the face is simply wonderful but I just love that jacket!!!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

He didn’t commission it Jazzy, someone else did as a present for his son. The commissioner hasn’t even seen it. She cancelled when I was half way through it. It was a great exercise and quite a challenge to do it from a very ‘blurry’ old photo, and I enjoyed it.

  • Ken Tregoning

    Ken Tregoning

If he doesn’t look like that . . . He should!

and as fo cancelled commission their loss your gain … Great work

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks Ken. Ya win some, ya lose some. I’m not bothered because it was good to do and I enjoyed it.

brilliant art LInda! people I know [artists ] always charge a third of the fee before starting ….non returnable, hope you did too.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

No, I didn’t do that Ginny! I have been advised before to charge a deposit, but I am not a good businesswoman and I’m an even worse softie!!!!

  • Brian Towers

    Brian Towers

Absolutly stunning work Lynda. I can only say that your client lost out on a great deal and if she sees this portrait could well change her mind and buy a wonderful painting.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks Brian. I was pleased with the outcome. I think once it was cancelled I relaxed because it didn’t matter how it turned out! Just a fluke that it turned out well, and now I will give it to the intended recipient as a birthday gift from our family.

    Douglas Hunt

I’ve had a commissioner cancel, too, but it’s never a waste of time to complete the work; after all, the love of painting comes first, right?

  • Lynda Robinson replied

You are quite right Doug. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this as it was quite challenging, and like I said in an earlier comment, it probably turned out better because I was quite relaxed about it because the pressure was off.

Beautiful work Lynda, enjoy the moment when you give this as a present

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks Mike. I think it might be quite emotional!!!! My husband worked for this chap for many years, and he thinks it is a great likeness which is really good because he is a very harsh critic!!!!

  • Holley Ryan

    Holley Ryan

This is a superb portrait. I think it’s good that you decided to finish it regardless of the cancellation. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. I love the texture throughout, it is wonderful!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you very much for such a lovely comment Holleyarna. The colours in the original are better than they turned out in this photo, but that usually seems to happen!

  • gra123

    gra123

MAN, YOU MUST REALLY FEEL RIPPED OFF PUTTING THAT MUCH WORK INTO A CANCELLED COMMISSION. DOES THAT HAPPEN OFTEN ? NEEDLESS TO SAY, BEAUTIFUL STUFF. GRAHAM.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks for the great comment! No, it doesn’t happen often, but it has happened a few times and it hurts a teeny weeny little bit!!! I gave it to the intended recipient as his birthday present from our family anyway.
