Super highlights on the face and wonderful background, love the way you brought it into the jacket. Nice work.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you so much Jim. I’m not sure whether to frame it or file it!!!

Fantastic Lynda! Wonderful work!
Lynda Robinson replied
Hello rightasrain. It is great to hear from you, and thank you for a really lovely comment. Have you been busy? What are you working on?
rightasrain
Hi Lynda! I’ve been doing a bit of expressive watercolour, sold a few cards here, working on some book illustration too for lady in US. So yes, been busy :-)
Lynda Robinson replied
Good to hear! I just had a quick look at your gallery, and I can see that you have been doing some wonderful work. XO
Alice McMahon ...
Oh wow! Glorious!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Alice. I am always pleased to get a comment from you, because you do such wonderful work.
Josh Bowe
Superb character portrait Lynda
Lynda Robinson replied
Fanks Josh! His eyes were really difficult because he has those ‘hooded’ deep set eyes that are very very smiley!
Marion Chapman
He is fabulous!! what a bummer to have the commissioner cancel on you – how rude!! Hope you sell it before he can have a chance to buy it.
It’s a fabulous portrait!!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Marion. That’s life! It was to be a 40th birthday present, and we happen to be attending the same birthday party, so I think I will just give it to the birthday boy as our gift! (It is a portrait of his father). I will be interested to see the reaction of the ‘commissioner’!
Linda Callaghan
amazing Lynda…absolute perfection…it will be interesting to hear what the ‘commissioner’ will say…bet they wish they went ahead with the order after seeing this masterpiece :-D …. love the twinkle in his eye and the happy expression.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Linda. I will let you know how it is received!
Linda Ridpath
WOW, and everything Linda above says xxxx
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks other Linda.
Jazzabel
This is a fantastic painting in pastel. I cannot believe this chap cancelled such a wonderful painting? The character you have caught in the face is simply wonderful but I just love that jacket!!!
Lynda Robinson replied
He didn’t commission it Jazzy, someone else did as a present for his son. The commissioner hasn’t even seen it. She cancelled when I was half way through it. It was a great exercise and quite a challenge to do it from a very ‘blurry’ old photo, and I enjoyed it.
Ken Tregoning
If he doesn’t look like that . . . He should!
and as fo cancelled commission their loss your gain … Great work
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Ken. Ya win some, ya lose some. I’m not bothered because it was good to do and I enjoyed it.
Virginia McGowan
brilliant art LInda! people I know [artists ] always charge a third of the fee before starting ….non returnable, hope you did too.
Lynda Robinson replied
No, I didn’t do that Ginny! I have been advised before to charge a deposit, but I am not a good businesswoman and I’m an even worse softie!!!!
Brian Towers
Absolutly stunning work Lynda. I can only say that your client lost out on a great deal and if she sees this portrait could well change her mind and buy a wonderful painting.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Brian. I was pleased with the outcome. I think once it was cancelled I relaxed because it didn’t matter how it turned out! Just a fluke that it turned out well, and now I will give it to the intended recipient as a birthday gift from our family.
Gilberte
Oh Linda what a beautiful portrait and what an artist you are!I admire your work a lot.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you Gilberte. What a lovely comment, XO
Kate Eller
Oh what a shame to be cancelled in the middle of a work. Such a beautiful portrait too. Such character in that face. Unbelievable how you create such perfection with pastels. I honestly have never seen better.
Lynda Robinson replied
What a wonderful comment Yimusjane!!!! I don’t think I can live up to such high praise!!!! Thank you very much indeed. XO
Douglas Hunt
I’ve had a commissioner cancel, too, but it’s never a waste of time to complete the work; after all, the love of painting comes first, right?
Lynda Robinson replied
You are quite right Doug. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this as it was quite challenging, and like I said in an earlier comment, it probably turned out better because I was quite relaxed about it because the pressure was off.
Tammera
I WILL BE ANXIOUS TO KNOW THE RESPOSNSE OF THE RECIPIENT AS WELL AS THE COMMISIONEE WHO CANCELLED…THIS IS AN INTERESTING LITTLE STROY…KEEP US POSTE WILL YOU???

mikebov
Beautiful work Lynda, enjoy the moment when you give this as a present
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Mike. I think it might be quite emotional!!!! My husband worked for this chap for many years, and he thinks it is a great likeness which is really good because he is a very harsh critic!!!!
Holley Ryan
This is a superb portrait. I think it’s good that you decided to finish it regardless of the cancellation. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. I love the texture throughout, it is wonderful!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you very much for such a lovely comment Holleyarna. The colours in the original are better than they turned out in this photo, but that usually seems to happen!
Pinkham
Sorry about the sell. You put alot of character in him.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks Pinkham. It doesn’t matter about the sale. I enjoyed doing this one.
GEORGE SANDERSON
An excelent portrait Lynda, your commissioner, must be mad to turn this down it is brilliant

Les Smutz
Super duper!!!! There is magic in your dusty fingers!!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks so much Les.
Soxy Fleming
how can someone do that to you? cancel a commission half way through? did they see it and think it wasn’t going well? you are very kind to then think of giving it as a present!
gra123
MAN, YOU MUST REALLY FEEL RIPPED OFF PUTTING THAT MUCH WORK INTO A CANCELLED COMMISSION. DOES THAT HAPPEN OFTEN ? NEEDLESS TO SAY, BEAUTIFUL STUFF. GRAHAM.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks for the great comment! No, it doesn’t happen often, but it has happened a few times and it hurts a teeny weeny little bit!!! I gave it to the intended recipient as his birthday present from our family anyway.
bosmoore
absolutely brilliant. I love the way you have captured the light. Amazing.
Lynda Robinson replied
