'Regeneration 1'
Pastel on Colourfix paper – 70cm x 50cm
I finished this painting late last year, and thought it was an appropriate RedBubble ‘upload’ given the events of the past week in Australia. It is symbolic of the Aussie spirit and the knowledge that the bush, and the people who dwell in the beauty of the Australian bush, will regenerate!
I have entered this painting in a few art shows since I finished it last November, and it has won me four awards! The next art show I have entered it in is at Kilmore, which is a bit spooky, because that is where the intial fire that demolished Kinglake, Flowerdale and the Marysville area commenced.
Many Australian eucalypts are dependent on fire to regenerate. This painting depicts the leaves and their ‘gumnut’ seeds from the ‘Ironbark’ species of eucalypt which are prolific on the 40 acre property where I live.
The People’s Choice – Ruffy Art Show – Nov. 2008
The Viewer’s Choice – Art by the Lake at Nagambie – Dec 2008
The People’s Choice – Strathbogie Art Show – Jan 2009
Highly Commended – Kilmore Art Expo – March 2009
Placed in the Top 10 of the Painters in Modern Times ‘Green’ Challenge – May 2009
Featured in the Painter’s in Modern Times group – May 2009
Featured in The Best of – August 2009
SOLD from the Old Courthouse Gallery, Seymour – July 2009
It is now August, so quite awhile since I uploaded this image. I received a call yesterday from the person who bought it. They explained that when they saw it in a local gallery they just HAD to have it because it reminded them of how the bush was before the fires, and gave them hope that it will ‘regenerate’ again. On further conversation I discovered that the buyer was from Kinglake, and she had sat in her dam on February 7th and watched her home and everything she owned go up in smoke!!!! She is rebuilding, and has a special spot in her new home for this painting.

Lynda Robinson replied

Janis Zroback
Where I grew up there was a huge eucalyptus across the road from us, as we walked to school, we would be walking over the berries that covered the ground crushing them with our feet as the scent wafted up around us…once more you have brought back a lovely memory of my childhood…
This is an incredibly beautiful painting Lynda…the rhythm and movement of the leaves, the reminders of the necessity of rain to keep the world green with the water droplets on the berries….composition, colour, everything that says perfection…
Lynda Robinson replied
They do have an extremely distinctive smell. I have heard of Aussies returning by ship to these shores who reckon they can smell the eucalypts long before land can be seen! Thank you so much for a really wonderful comment Janis.
DApixara
excellent image
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you DApixara! I appreciate your interest in my work and your comment.

Not only a delightful painting Lynda, but some flora information to boot…maybe that should be gumboot. This is a very clever composition giving a 3D effect and the leaf colours and water drops are spot on.
Lynda Robinson replied
Brian – you always make the bestest comments!
Thank you very much.

Many thanks for a lovely comment Anita. Very much appreciated.
Pat Yager
Another perfect painting, Lynda! And it is so almost prophetic in light of the firestorm you’ve just experienced. You have such an ability to create the gentle background softness, working up to the foreground with more color and perfect detail. I feel I could almost reach out and touch it! Beautifully done, my dear friend! – Pat
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you so much my dear friend Pat! It was great fun to paint. The background was quite easy with a lot of smudging and blending, and then I just scribbled a few blurry leaves on top of that, followed by more attention to detail in the top few leaves and the nuts, then finally the water droplets.
Kate Eller
Pat has said it all Lynda. The depth in this work is amazing. It is just so real…... and your explanation adds such poinancy to it all. The beautiful depiction of a simple plant shows how life springs back from tragedy. Is all well with you on that front?
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you for a truly great comment yimusjane. All is well with me.
Blended
This is very pretty. I like the way you did the background and the waterdrops. This is the first time I have seen eucalyptic leaves. I like the smell of eucalyptus because it reminds me of when I was a child and my Mother taking care of me.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thankyou for a lovely comment Blended.
Janis Zroback
The oils are used medicinally, and we had it at home as well….
Lynda Robinson replied
Household Hint Janis! Eucalyptus oil is also great for removing the sticky residue left where sticky labels have been attached!!
GEORGE SANDERSON
Absolutly brilliant work Lynda, The water droplets are superb !!!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you very much George. I really did enjoy this painting, and my framer did a fantastic job using a ‘distressed’ creamy coloured frame with green bits showing through, and a cream mount with a dark green ‘slip’ of an inner mount (sounds weird but looks great)!
Caroline Gorka
Beautiful work …this, and all you have shared with us. I’ve just had a look through your folio, thinking..’where do I start’ ...
Lynda Robinson replied
Hi Caroline – Thank you so much for the lovely comment and for adding me to your watchlist. I really do appreciate your support.

For me this really brings back those misty mornings camping in the bush when it has rained overnight and using one’s ingenuity to find dry kindling to get a breakfast fire going. Nice work!
Lynda Robinson replied
Well, asamatterafact it was a bit like that here this morning Richard! We actually had some rain overnight and I live on a bush block which was very sparkly with raindrops dripping from the leaves as I drove to work this morning.

BRILLIANT

A beautiful work .I love the depth of field approach
A true beauty!
DIKO
Lynda Robinson replied 19 days ago
Sorry – I missed this comment Diko and it has taken me too long to respond! I have done a few paintings along this ‘vein’ and they are so enjoyable. I’m glad you like this one. The framer did an absolutely fantastic job, using a ‘stressed timber’ frame in creams and greens. It looked fantastic and really enhanced the painting so much.
Angela Palibrk 20 days ago
Hi Lynda,
This piece is amazing. The dew drops on the tips of the leaves and the gum nuts are so realistic. You are very fortunate to have such beautiful subjects to paint just outside your home. Well done.
Angie
Lynda Robinson replied 19 days ago
I’ve got 40 acres of these subjects Angela! LOL!!!! Sometimes I love ‘em – but at this time of year I hate ‘em!!!! Thanks for a great comment.

It’s interesting to see how many plant species in hot dry countries do use fire for regeneration – Proteas in South Africa being another. The problem is how terrifyingly destructive the bushfires are!! This is another superb painting, your work really is wonderful Lynda :-)
Lynda Robinson replied 9 days ago
What a fabulous comment Constance. Yes, the eucalypts are an intriguing plant with so many varieties and their ‘oil’ content makes them particuarly combustible!!! We have Proteas too! I have some in a vase in the house at the moment.

Now this I really do like. Crisp and fresh. And fragrant
Lynda Robinson replied 3 days ago
I’m very glad you like it John. I had a lot of fun ‘finger painting’ the pastel onto the background and blending the colours. Then the foreground leaves were added as random swipes and the addition of the detail (perhaps a bit too much)! I appreciate your comment very much. Going now – ZZZZZZZZZ!
