Summer Fun

Summer Fun

Pastel on Canson paper (gold) – smooth side – 25cm x 25cm

This painting is so old! I never had it framed and it re-surfaced in my studio the other day when I was having a clean up. That child is now 27, about to get married and teaching phys ed and maths at a secondary school in Melbourne!!!! The doggy has gone to that big kennel in the sky! I uploaded this as it suits a current challenge. I would approach it quite differently now – this looks so ‘rough’ to me! This is the ‘Sugarloaf Creek’ near my home and every summer afternoon after school we would go there to cool off. We have some very happy family memories of our Summer Fun days!

How time passes…. this painting reminds me of when I was a young girl and we used to go to the river almost daily in the holidays… to me, it is so much like the river of those days, it’s unbelievable… same silvery ripples on the water… we had a fox terrier called Pip, that look almost the same as the dog in your painting… so even though you say it’s rough, to me it’s wonderful.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you so much for a really wonderful and comprehensive comment Janis. This little dog was ‘Molly’ and she just adored water and looking for pebbles that were dropped into the water for her. I’m glad it has rekindled some happy memories for you too!

I really like the rough look.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you Michael. I don’t mind the rough look. It has lost a bit of pastel from being stored away in a folder, so maybe I should revamp it just a teeny weeny little bit, and then frame it.

what you call rough I call a great work of art Lynda….makes me wonder how you would approach it differently now…have not done a landscape pastel yet not sure where to start (have to get diff. paper first tho.) would one approach it as a painting I assume? I love the detail and the composition it is such a happy peaceful painting!!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you Linda for such a kind comment. I would approach the composition differently now and I would lighten up the background! Oh, don’t get me started! Basically yes, same approach as a painting, and I usually do a rough drawing in charcoal to place all the elements and work out the composition.

So, even as a young girl…..you were a truly talented artist Lynda. I think your style hasn’t changed much with those strong contrasts and colours. But then why change it if it ain’t bust? Hard to believe this hasn’t been framed and enjoyed over the years.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks Brian – Yes, I was quite surprised when I rediscovered it! I will get it framed now though because it is a nice piece for the family to keep.

some points are different with recent work, but very beautiful life painting, Lynda. it is so mcuh differeant with photograph that we can’t throw off any drawing and painting. our works are our lives itself. they are very valuable for us. then you can imagine that i am now going to separate with my all works which i have done in last two years and a half.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you for the nice comment Hidemi. It is very sad that you have to leave so many paintings behind when you leave Portugal.
