Creek Crossing

Creek Crossing

Pastel on Colourfix sanded paper (burgundy) 70cm x 50 cm

My second painting for 2009! Just finished it today and I have been working on it for a few hours each day for about 4 days. The location is Hughes Creek at Avenel. Took me awhile to be reasonably happy with the look of the shallow water and I became very annoyed that in amongst a million pastels, there was not ONE that was the right colour blue that I wanted!

How can I not fave your work?
    Gorgeous Stunning and simply exquisite!
You transport me to exactly where I want to be!
[laying in a bush creek especially on this bloody hot day!]
    Thank you! X♥X

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Adgray you are such a legend! You shoot me into your favourites before they are barely uploaded!! It IS a bloody disgustingly hot day – I had sweat trickling down my back when I finished this!!!! Just because you mentioned it, I whizzed out to check the temp on my verandah – it is 40 in the shade! Grab your bathers girl – I’ll meet you at the creek!!!!

That shimmery shallow water is wonderful!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Well it nearly wasn’t shimmery water at all!!!! At one stage I was ready to consign THIS one to the bin, because the water wasn’t looking right! Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated.

Lol oh I know that feeling of frustration about the blue lol – I’m painting more this year and just working on an expressive one – and darn it if I couldn’t find the right blue :-) This is a beautiful painting. Rock on 2009!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks my dear! You should see my pastel collection, and it is UNBELIEVABLE that the right blue was nowhere to be found! I do mix them in large enough areas, but I just wanted little teeny touches as highlights on the surface of the water. Those blues you see in this painting are WRONG! I am probably the only person who is ever going to care though!

  • rightasrain

    rightasrain

40 in the shade???!!!! Gosh you and adgray are suffering. It’s a lot cooler up her in SE Qld but I won’t hold my breath….

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Are you getting all that rain up there in Queensland rightasrain, that I keep seeing on my telly, but not seeing in my sky????

  • rightasrain

    rightasrain

When we got back from the Blue Mts beginning Jan we had 50 mls in the rain guage and a few showers since then. The weather map shows a lot more coming down from up north – but nothing much happening. I sure feel for you all down there Lynda. That brassy sky got to me for years – couldn’t stand it. Thankfully everything’s green here. But very humid.

Your pastels have given me such a sense of what the landscape is like there in your part of Australia. There’s something rugged and beautiful about it. This painting just deepens my appreciation for the land and your talent, Lynda. Congrats on another fine work.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Why thank you very much Michael! That is a great complimentary comment and very much appreciated by this little Aussie Artist! I am very pleased if it conveys a sense of what this country is like.

No wonder you’re getting so many comments Lynda, this is pure magic. My favourite paintings are those which seem to sparkle; parts looking brighter than the support they’re painted on, and you manage that difficult skill perfectly.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Fanks Brian! For some reason I did have difficulties with this painting, except on ONE day when I couldn’t put a stroke or a smudge wrong, but that was only one day!

Ha, know the place. Originally from Euroa

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Ha to you too! – that is FANTASTIC!!!! It is amazing that Hughes Creek still manages to have a bit of water in it despite this drought! Was up at Strathbogie a few weeks ago for their art show, so went through Euroa. Lovely little country towns!

  • kimbaross

    kimbaross

They are, very dry though. Gooram Falls is gorgeous country, just out of Euroa towards Merton. Love the whole NE, beautiful part of the world.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

I have seen the signs to Gooram Falls, but I don’t know if I’ve actually been there. Will have to go on a little tour and check it out! I love the whole of the Hughes Creek area, especially up around Tarcombe.

wow your a lengend mate, thats so amazing. with my pastels i find it impossible to find all the right colours so i exaggerate my colours a little bit but still keeping it real. i love the water, even if you say it wasnt the right blue, it has a some sort of oily look to it which is beautiful. nice work mate
