'Sepia Siren'
Pastel on a scrappy piece of brown Canson paper!
This painting was a total fluke from a few years ago! I had bought four new Schminke pastels and I wanted to try them out – there was a pale blue, a pale yellow, a creamy colour and a dark brown. I used a scrappy piece of paper left over from another painting and started doodling! The face just emerged, and I thought she looked sort of ‘aloof’ and ‘Art Deco-ish’ I looked through an old book about fashion, and found some drawings of 1920’s headgear. I just added a bit of light here and a bit of dark there, smudged around a bit and there she was! I thought she needed a dangly earring, so I hung what is actually a pendant on the edge of my easel and used that. Amazing how a bit of scribble can turn into something! I won’t part with it, and my son has claimed this painting when I die!

Wow Robbo – love this to bits! This is some doodle my dear – and you’re right she does look Art Deco-ish and very aloof. Beautiful!
Lynda Robinson replied
Fanks Milesey. At the time I was so infuriated that I had used such a daggy piece of paper, and the frame had to be cut so carefully to actually fit it in without gaps at the sides! My framer did a fantastic job on an art-deco-ish type of frame, which is another reason why I want to keep it.
Mrswillow
She is even more beautiful in real life. I am so pleased that you have kept this one in the family!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you my fantastic friend! Every time Hugh sees it he says “can I have it now?”
Lara Cooper
Very lovely…she is intriguing. I immediately began to wonder who she was, and so read the explanation and see that she is completely created! Great story quality and very beautiful work.
Lynda Robinson replied
Lara – I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am that you have commented on my work, particularly because you are an artist whose work I greatly admire.

mscholl21
fabulous!!! Isn’t it funny how we make great pieces with scraps of paper.
Maybe our true emotion comes out when we’re just messing around.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks for the comment Michael. Yes, I guess sometimes we get a bit bogged down trying to make every painting worthwhile and maybe we need to just let loose and mess around more often!
marlaakajake
Fluks can be the best as we can see from this one. I love this era and the gold

Wow for something like this to just “emerge” is just amazing! You really are a very talented, natural artist. I could picture this hung in a gallery with a huge price tag on it! =)
Lynda Robinson replied
Hi Koop person! – Great to hear from you and thanks for a lovely comment. I gave the painting to my son last Sunday! Thought it was probably better for him to take it than to have it stored away in my studio, especially after the fires! (I just discovered I put this in the wrong box, so forgive me for the long delay! I did reply, but you didn’t get it)
