'After Five'

'After Five'

Pastel on grey Colourfix sanded paper. 70cm x 50cm

The sun goes down and it’s time for bed for my colourful little group of chooks! They all have their specific locations, and there is much feather fluffing and fidgeting until everyone is happy that they are in the correct pecking order and all is right with the world! This is a fairly old painting (circa 2003), so some of them are now running around in that big chook pen in the sky! There is a whole new generation who are equally beautiful. The very handsome fellow in the middle of all the girls was called ‘Pavarotti’ (he had a wonderful voice)!

Finished in the Top Ten of the ‘Mental Alchemy’ challenge in the First Things group – May 2009

'After Five' belongs to the following groups:

* Painted Nature *, Aussie Bush Paintings, Australia! You're Standing In it...., Contemporary Pastel Painters (2 per day), First Things, Friends of RedBubble, Hand Drawn or Painted Art of Happiness or Joy, Imaginative Realism, Impressionism Café and Impressionist Art

    Excelent Lynda !!!
Do you get many fresh eggs? :-)

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Yes we do get plenty of fresh eggs George. In fact the girls are being a bit too generous at the moment, and I have a dozen here at work to give away today!

I do love your chook pastels …this is my favourite! The colours are just perfect!

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you Sandra. I was very happy with this one too, but this is a really BAD reproduction of the original painting. Photo was taken on my old camera and it looks really blurry here on the Bubble!

This is absolutely a delight, Lynda. Love it! The comp is fun. The way you wove the color into the corrugated metal works so well with these chickens. What breeds do you have? My sister has a dozen Rhode Island Reds that are hysterical to watch because they’ve bonded to my niece and will only wander out of the coop if my niece will wander the yard with them.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks for such a lovely comment TPS! ‘Pavarotti’ was a Rhode Island Red – he was just gorgeous, and he died of old age – (in fact all our chooks die of old age)! Yes, ‘chooks’ is an Australian word for hens or chickens! At the moment we have some big fluffy Sussex girls and some gingery coloured ones but I don’t know what breed they are. They are all very friendly.

P.S. So are chooks a breed or an Aussie name for chickens? : >D

Even when enlarged this resembles a photograph … you are truly a master of the pastel … or should that be a mistress … or a lady … oh this political correctness gets confusing at times, but you know what I mean :)

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Yeah – I DO know what you mean! You say such nice things about my art so you can call me whatever you like!

You never roost on your laurels Lynda and your little feathered poseurs look lovely in pastel.

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Well your comments have got me all fired up tonight Brian! – Shame it’s dark, or I would be heading off to my studio to throw myself into half a dozen paintings at once!

I like it very much, it is nice to see what chooks are doing just after five! :-)

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thank you Gouzelka. You made me smile!!! They are creatures of habit, and do almost exactly the same thing after five every evening!!!! Daylight saving throws them out a bit though!

Did it again. Love the “chooks” in their rusty iron chook pen. Pity life has to change in backyards. Your rusty iron as really given those childhood memories a jolt…........Sandy

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Well life hasn’t changed much in OUR backyard Sandy! They are still perched in front of rusty iron in the chook pen! It is nice that you say it brings back childhood memories. That is a lovely comment!

    Hi Lynda,
What a great surprise I got when I opened this. I must say I didn’t recognise it as one of your paintings at first.
Still I like it very much, reminds me of the growing up at home, at times a little cramped

    DIKO

  • Lynda Robinson replied

Thanks DIKO. I have done a lot of chooky paintings in my time!!!! This is a BAD photo from my old camera, but it gives an idea of my little ‘tribe’!!!!
